Examination Courses

IELTS Course

  • Available all year
  • For students aged 18+ years in our adults department
  • For students aged 14-17 years in our teenage department*
  • Start any Monday

Course fees include:

  • 21 hours of tuition per week
  • Class of maximum 9 students (average 5)
  • Social programme (see special information sheet)
  • Free use of student internet & resource centre
  • School information pack
  • FREE accommodation booking service
  • Assistance with school, college or university placement
  • FREE airport transfers on Saturdays (see overleaf)

* Teenagers 14-17 years: please see Teenage Intensive course sheet for price of IELTS tuition and accommodation.

Adults 18+ years: Course fee per week (minimum 4 weeks)

  • June, July, August £310 per week
  • Rest of year £260 per week
  • Supplement for entry fee, course book and materials, £120
  • Add registration fee £50 and accommodation

Accommodation (see below)

1. Cambridge Esol

Tests reading, writing, speaking, listening. (Note: KET/PET are not run as specific courses but can be taken by any student in mid-June and mid-December on payment of the examinations entry fee.)


First Certificate (FCE)/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)

  • 9-week course starting 7 January £175 per week
  • 12-week course starting 17 March or 15 September £195 per week
  • 28 lessons (21 hours) per week in class of maximum 9 students.
  • Supplement for exam fee and course book: £120
  • Add one extra week’s accommodation to cover the week in which examinations take place.
  • Students wishing to join examinations courses on other dates should contact the School for details of fees.
  • Add registration fee £50 and accommodation.

2. City & Guilds /Pitman Qualifications ESOL & Spoken ESOL (available all year round)

  • ESOL exam tests skills of listening, reading and writing. Spoken ESOL tests oral skills.
  • Minimum 3-week course. Students should join the Adult Intensive or Teenage Intensive course and add £200 supplement for 8 extra lessons in specific examination preparation and one exam entry fee.
  • Second exam entry fee £50.

3. City & Guilds /Pitman Qualification SET for Business (available all year round)

  • SET Spoken Test for Business: this is a test of communicative use of English in a business context. Intended for those involved in or studying business.
  • Minimum 3-week course.
  • Students should join the Adult Intensive course and add £200 supplement for 8 extra lessons in specific examination preparation and exam entry fee.

Adult Accommodation

Our homestay families only take students from SIS so we can guarantee: no other students of the same nationality; no overcrowding; no junior students.

Most homestays are within walking distance of the School.

Breakfast and evening meal included, with light lunch at weekends.

SIS can also recommend suitable hotels, guest houses and self-catering apartments.

Homestay/Private Home Accommodation (per person)

  • Single room £140 per week (June-August)
  • £125 per week (rest of year)
  • Shared room £115 per week
