3. City & Guilds / Pitman Qualifications SET FOR BUSINESS (available all year round) SET Spoken Test for Business: this is a test of communicative use of English in a business context. Intended for those involved in or studying business.
All examinations are internationally recognised and correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework.
Our homestay families only take students from SIS so we can guarantee: no other students of the same nationality; no overcrowding; no junior students. Most homestays are within walking distance of the School. Breakfast and evening meal included, with light lunch at weekends. SIS can also recommend suitable hotels, guest houses and self-catering apartments.
Transfers SIS operates a FREE escorted bus service between London Heathrow Airport and Sidmouth each Saturday. The School can in no way he held responsible for any late arrivals or departures; reservations must he made at least one week in advance. ARRIVALS: Free bus leaves Heathrow 17:00 Average journey time 2.5 hours Regular shuttle buses link Gatwick to Heathrow airport every 15 minutes (journey time 90 minutes; price approximately £40.00 return) and also link Stansted to Heathrow airport every 30 minutes (journey time 85 minutes; price approximately £30.00 return). 50% discount for age 16 and under.
Academic IELTS is an internationally recognised qualification necessary for UK university entrance in the UK and most English speaking countries. General IELTS is for employment or immigration purposes. Entry to an A-level course or a university foundation course will usually require an IELTS score of 5.5. Entry to a university degree course will usually require an IELTS score of 6.5-7.5. The IELTS test is available monthly in nearby Exeter (transport provided). Results are issued within 2 weeks of the test. Early booking of test dates is essential to guarantee a place. SIS has designed an IELTS preparation course which initially includes 21 hours per week of general English to improve and practise the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as to improve knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. When the student has reached the required level of English, the structure of the programme will change, with general English continuing for 15 hours per week and formal IELTS training for 6 hours per week. The IELTS sessions will be in small groups, or in personalised tutorial groups; they can also be taken as one-to-one lessons at extra charge. SIS can advise students on the estimated length of course they will need in order to achieve their study aims, although this will depend not only on the student’s current level of English, but also their commitment and ability to learn.
