Examinations Courses 2010

1. CAMBRIDGE EXAMINATIONS

First Certificate (FCE), Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and Proficiency (CPE)

Sidmouth International School is a Cambridge examinations centre so you can take the exams at the school.

Our courses are designed and delivered by our examinations experts who give you specific exam preparation.
Students join one of the Adult combination courses. Please contact the School or see the Adult course sheet for more details and prices.

2. City & Guilds / Pitman Qualifications ESOL & spoken ESOL (available all year round)

ESOL exam tests skills of listening, reading and writing. Spoken ESOL tests oral skills.

 

Minimum 3-week course.

Students should join the Adult Intensive and add £220 supplement for 8 extra lessons in specific examination preparation and one exam entry fee.

Second exam entry fee £50.

3. City & Guilds / Pitman Qualifications SET FOR BUSINESS (available all year round)

SET Spoken Test for Business: this is a test of communicative use of English in a business context. Intended for those involved in or studying business.

 

Minimum 3-week course.

Students should join the Adult Intensive and add £220 supplement for 8 extra lessons in specific examination preparation and one exam entry fee.

Add registration fee £50 and accommodation.

Accommodation

Our homestay families only take students from SIS so we can guarantee: no other students of the same nationality; no overcrowding; no junior students.

Most homestays are within walking distance of the School. Breakfast and evening meal included, with light lunch at weekends. SIS can also recommend suitable hotels, guest houses and self-catering apartments.

Transfers

SIS operates a FREE escorted bus service between London Heathrow Airport and Sidmouth each Saturday. The School can in no way he held responsible for any late arrivals or departures; reservations must he made at least one week in advance.

ARRIVALS: Free bus leaves Heathrow 17:00
DEPARTURES: Arrives Heathrow at 12:00 approximately

Average journey time 2.5 hours

Regular shuttle buses link Gatwick to Heathrow Airport every 15 minutes (journey time 90 min) and also link Stansted to Heathrow Airport every 30 minutes (journey time 105 min).

There is also a frequent National Express public bus service operating between Heathrow Airport and Exeter.

IELTS COURSE 2010

For students aged 18+ years in our adults department
Start any Monday

IELTS is an internationally recognised qualification necessary for UK university entrance in the UK and most English speaking countries.

The IELTS test is available monthly in nearby Exeter (transport provided). Results are issued within 2 weeks of the test. Early booking of test dates is essential to guarantee a place.

Course Structure

Initially you will take a course which includes:

  • 28 lessons (21 hours) General English to improve and practise speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as grammar and vocabulary.

When you have reached the required level of English, the structure of the programme will change:

  • 20 lessons (15 hours) per week of General English
  • 8 lessons (6 hours) per week of formal IELTS training in small groups, or personalised tutorial groups
One-to-one lessons can be taken at an extra charge

Course fees include:

  • 21 hours of tuition per week
  • Class of maximum 9 students (average 5)
  • Social programme
  • Free use of student internet & resource centre

  • Assistance with school, college or university placement
  • FREE airport transfers on Saturdays
