Courses for Young Learners 2010 Vacation Courses for Students 8-13 years Sidmouth International School has been successfully running Junior courses since 1983. An experienced team of well-qualified specialist Junior teachers and activities leaders organises a varied programme of teaching and leisure activities specially designed for this age group. Our aim is to provide the special care and supervision required by younger students, in the safe and secure environment of this small seaside town.
Both courses are based in our Junior department, which is separate from the Adult and Teenage departments. The courses are specially designed to teach English to the young learner in a holiday atmosphere, with the emphasis on improving their fluency and increasing their language knowledge. Students are placed in class according to their age and level of English and work together to develop their communication skills. They leave with more confidence and a greater understanding of both the English language and culture. Course fees include:
All included in course fees During the afternoons there is a busy programme which includes:
and many other activities, all fully supervised by experienced and qualified staff (including lifeguards and first-aiders). The programme includes a half-day excursion on Thursdays and a full-day excursion on Saturdays (except on weekend of departure). Professional sports coaching and horse-riding are available - ask School for prices and details. See social activities page for more details of leisure programme. Supervision Young Learners are supervised at all times during their stay in the UK. They are brought to School each day by the homestay family or by School minibus, and met by a member of staff. After lessons the students are supervised by activity leaders who hand them over to the homestay family at 16.00. There are no evening activities for students on the Junior course. The Tweens course has been designed for students in the 12-13 years age group who still need some supervision but like a limited amount of freedom, for example shopping in small groups during the day-time when the occasion arises. They also have two evening activities each week, which include full supervision and transport to and from School / homestay. Transport The School has an escorted bus every Saturday from/to London Heathrow Airport, with a meeting and check-in service for unaccompanied students (extra cost). There is also a school car service available: experienced School drivers will meet students at the arrivals gate and assist with check-in on departure. Please ask the School for a Transport Information Pack. Students on Junior and Tweens courses are placed with special Junior homestay families who have children, and who provided the care and supervision as well as the correct enviroment for children of this age. All Junior homestays are checked by a local government agency and regularly inspected by the School. Our homestay families only take students from SIS so we can guarantee: no other students of the same nationality; no overcrowding; no adult or teenage students. Price includes shared room, all meals (packed lunch on weekdays) daily escorted transfers to and from School, and Sunday with the homestay family.
